Detached House, Tetbury
This contemporary reinterpretation of a Georgian Villa is located on a large backplot of a diminutive period cottage, adjacent to a conservation area. Its location demanded a sensitive solution, but our client still wanted “something different”.
We designed a large five-bedroomed, three-bathroomed, three-storied house with light at its centre. The house is designed around a glazed atrium. All the principal rooms are directly accessed from this area, significantly reducing wasteful circulation space. It has a considerable glazed opening, including large openable roof windows and picture windows to the front elevation.
The heart of the house is the family room, incorporating the kitchen, an informal dining space, formal dining space and informal lounging space. The room benefits from large glazed openings, creating a light, airy space.
The ground floor additionally provides a formal living loom, a study, a utility room, and shower room. At first floor level, four double bedrooms and an enormous family bathroom (lit by a roof-light) are housed.
The top floor is in the eaves of the house and houses a master suite comprising a sleeping area, day room, shower room and dressing area. Natural light is borrowed from the atrium with large glazed walls to the shower room and the sleeping area.
