House Refurbishment, NW London
House Refurbishment, North-West London
morph design creatives were commissioned by a local Design and Build Contractor to provide full Architectural and Structural Engineering design services (incl. Contract Administration) for this whole house refurbishment project.
The Property is a substantial four-storey, split-level, six bedroom, four bathroom House. It benefited from a basement towards the rear, which housed an utility room, WC and a reception room.
We extended the basement to the front wall beneath the raised ground floor. We formed a new bay window and a lightwell. The extended basement now houses a Gymnasium, Wine Cellar, Media Room, Shower Room and Utility Room as well as copious amounts of storage.
The Client’s stipulation that the Living Room floor was to remain intact throughout the works to preserve the existing hardwood floor complicated matters. The Basement was therefore dug from the front of the property, underpinning as we went. The existing (secondary) access to the Basement consisted of a stair through a lightwell at the rear of the living room. This was infilled, with the new floor finish to match the existing hardwood floor. The entire floor (new & existing) was refinished to ensure that the “join” was invisible. This room was then sub-divided with the introduction of outsize, double pocket doors. This allows the space to be used more flexibly; either as two separate, self-contained reception rooms, or as one large entertaining space.
The en-suite Bathroom of the Master Suite was overhauled and extended into a new dormer roof extension. A new walk-in shower, and new wash basins was provided, together with the installation of marble slabs to the floor, shower walls, and vanity tops.
The en-suite extension also facilitated the extension of the Dressing Room. This space was enhanced with purpose-built joinery, designed in association with Dot interiors. The upper floor Bathrooms were overhauled with the replacement of tiling and sanitaryware.
Finally, the entire Property was redecorated and recarpeted, completing a high quality, elegant refurbishment.
